PHARMACY TECHNICIAN I
Basic Prescriptions & Dispensing
This course presents the initial educational components leading to Pharmacy Technician Certification. This nine-week course consists of 36 classroom hours.
Curriculum includes instruction in state regulations, insurance restrictions, mathematics relating to job performance, applicable law, nomenclature, introduction to basic IV admixture, computerized pharmacy systems and basic skills needed to work in pharmacies, hospitals and retail businesses. Coursework also includes classroom exercises and competency reviews.
In addition, students will be assisted in job search skills including resume preparation, interviewing techniques and networking opportunities within the Oklahoma City area.
Prerequisites for the class are a high school diploma or GED. Good math skills are recommended. A Certification of Completion will be awarded upon successful completion of the class (75% or better)
The Pharmacy Technician I program is taught by Michael Robinson, Certified Pharmacy Technician. Robinson received his certificate in 2006 and has worked in both retail and hospital pharmacy settings.

Course are facilitated via an E-blended learning format that utilizes in-class, hands-on applications in addition to online coursework to enhance the learning experience. 8 D Training is customized to your organization’s specific requirements and can be implemented across industries. Below are the following steps for effective implementation of the 8 D Methodology:
**The Planning Phase: Plan for solving the problem and determine the prerequisites.
1: Use a Team: Establish a team of people with product/process knowledge.
2: Define and describe the Problem: Specify the problem by identifying in quantifiable terms the who, what, where, when, why, how, and how many (5W2H) for the problem.
3: Developing Interim Containment Plan Implement and verify Interim Actions: Define and implement containment actions to isolate the problem from any customer.
4: Determine and Identify and Verify Root Causes and escape points: Identify all potential causes that could explain why the problem occurred. Also identify why the problem has not been noticed at the time it occurred. All causes shall be verified or proved, not determined by fuzzy brainstorming.
5: Choose and verify Permanent Corrective Actions (PCAs) for root cause and Escape point: Through pre-production programs quantitatively confirm that the selected corrective actions will resolve the problem for the customer.
6: Implement and validate PCAs: Define and Implement the best corrective actions.
7: Prevent recurrence: Modify the management systems, operation systems, practices, and procedures to prevent recurrence of this and all similar problems.
8: Congratulate your Team: Recognize the collective efforts of the team. The team needs to be formally thanked by the organization.[1][2]

Electronic Medical Records Technician Program
The Corporate Learning Department at Oklahoma City Community College will offer classes this January in the new program, Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Technician.
This non-credit training course will prepare students for information technology jobs in healthcare.
Medical Terminology and Introduction to Computers will be the foundational classes for the EMR Technician program. Date and time for the Medical Terminology course is Tuesday, Jan. 19 from 6 to 8:30 p.m., while the Introduction to Computers course is set for Monday, Jan. 25, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Future classes will include medical coding, EMR software, healthcare reimbursement methodologies, and health information and statistics. Students who complete the EMR Technician program will be prepared to take certification exams, if they choose, through the American Association of Professional Coders and the American Health Information Management Association.
OCCC’s EMR Technician program will help meet the demand for skilled workers in the medical records area. The established goal of utilizing electronic medical records for all Americans by 2014 will require a large number of trained workers. Estimates from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Department of Education and independent studies indicate a shortfall of approximately 51,000 qualified health IT workers. Within the next five years, trained personnel in the EMR field will be in high demand at hospitals and physician offices throughout the United States as they adopt electronic medical records systems.
